New Visa Application Procedure at the Embassy of France in New Delhi
All applicants residing in India can now apply at any France Visa Application Centre in India (Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Puducherry, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Jalandhar, Ahmedabad, Pune, Goa, Hyderabad and Cochin) effective 30 October 2014.
The Embassy of France, New Delhi is pleased to introduce a new facility to meet the ever-increasing demand for French Visa among Indians. It is our constant effort to provide greater comfort and convenience to our visa applicants, applicants can also apply at the below mentioned France Visa Application Centers:
- France Visa Application Center in Chandigarh
- France Visa Application Center in Jaipur
- France Visa Application Center in Jalandhar
SCHENGEN visa has to be obtained from the Consulate of the country where the MAIN PURPOSE OF TRAVEL lies. With effect from 12 December 2008, Switzerland has also joined the Schengen treaty making it a total of 25.
The list of Schengen countries are as follows:
Note: In case of travel to multiple Schengen
countries, please make your application to the Embassy where you will be
staying for the maximum number of days.
Submission of Visa application can be done by the following:
1) Applicant himself.
2) Travel Agents authorized by Embassy of France, New Delhi.
Please note that for any submission of passport/s to VFS ,an applicant/representative has to necessarily carry a copy of the identification (passport or a driving license or PAN card or voter-identity card).The photocopy of the identification will have to be attached to the file at the time of its submission. In case a representative is coming to submit the application or collection of passport he needs to carry a photo id of himself and a proof establishing his relationship with the applicant and an authority letter from the applicant. In case the representative is from company the authority letter should be on company letter head and the representative should also be holding photo ID card issued by company
A representative cannot be a non-listed Travel Agent.
In case the passport is submitted by a travel agency authorized by The Embassy of France, New Delhi in addition to the above-mentioned procedure, complete address of the travel agency, the name of the managing director, his phone, mobile numbers and e-mail address would also have to be provided.
Collection of Passport
The Embassy of France has implemented a change in arrangement for the collection of passport(s) from VFS Visa Application Centre. With effect from 08 December 2014, third party collection of the documents or passports will not be permitted, except in the following cases:
- Immediate Family Member (i.e. Parents, Children, Siblings)
- One member of a group collecting for the entire group
- A person collecting on behalf of Govt. officials if authorized on the Govt. letter head or department
- Representative of a company - Authorization letter on the letter head of the company and the official ID card
If any of the above comes for passport collection they need to carry the following documents
- Photocopy of Govt. ID card
- Original ICR
- Authorization Letter from applicant
The applicants are requested to mention the complete delivery address on the covering letter. In case no specific address is mentioned on the covering letter, the passport will be sent to the address mentioned on the Visa Application Form.
This procedural change is to ensure the safe and secure return of documents to applicants.
A decision on an admissible application must be taken within 15 calendar days from the date on which it was lodged. In exceptional cases, this time limit may be extended. So far as possible, the processing time will be reduced. Applicants will have to sign the declaration in case their travel is less than 15 calendar days from the date of submission.
The Declaration needs to be submitted in original and has to be signed by the applicant
Appointments can be taken online at www.vfs-france.co.in or by telephoning the France Visa Call Centre (phone number: +91 022 67866014). The Internet facility is available 24x7 while the phone-in facility is available 08:00am - 17:00 hours Monday-Friday.
All applications for DOM which include Guadeloupe(St Marteen), Martinique, Guyana and Reunion and TOM which includes Wallis and Futana, Saint Pierre & Miquelon, French Polynesia, Nouvelle Caledonia and Mayotte will submit their application with prior appointment at the France Visa Application Centre at Schengen JVAC, Shivaji Stadium Metro Station, Mezzanine Level, Baba Kharak Singh Marg, Connaught Place, New Delhi- 110001, Monday to Friday except holidays.
“All applications for the African Countries which include Ivory Coast, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Djibouti, Mauritania, Togo, Gabon & Centrafrique will submit their application directly at the French Embassy between 09:30 to 10:30 daily. For some specific cases, the visa applications could be directly submitted at the French Embassy with prior appointment.

Foreign citizen residing in India requesting a visa to go to France are requested to refer to the following link to check whether he/she is required to get a visa before travelling
"Visa applications can't be processed and accepted from people (including Indian nationals) visiting India and wishing to go to France from India -even on their way back to their country of residence-. Should they want to visit France while visiting India, they need to request their Schengen visa before departing their country of residence. If there is an emergency reason for going to France while in India, the applicant has to get in touch with VFS and explain the case"
Diplomats, Official Passport holder, members of United Nation and other applicants can submit their application directly at the Embassy of France from Monday to Friday between 09:30 to 10:30 . Applicants for long stay visa will submit their applications only at the French Embassy In New Delhi from Monday to Friday between 09:30 to 10:30 .

W.E.F. 01/11/2006 all applicants except first time traveler (traveling first time to a Schengen country) while applying for a French visa will be required to fill Visa Insurance Undertaking form in addition to the visa application form.
- Important-Passport which is more than ten years old as on date of visa application will not be accepted for visa processing. Passport should be valid for at least three (3) months longer than intended stay. Also applicants should attach expired passports with their valid passport.
