New Visa Application Procedure at the Embassy of France in New Delhi

The Embassy of France, New Delhi is pleased to introduce a new facility to meet the ever-increasing demand for French Visa among Indians. It is our constant effort to provide greater comfort and convenience to our visa applicants.

From 21st April, 2005 applicants residing in the National Capital Territories of Delhi, States of Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Uttaranchal, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Bihar, chattisgarh, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Orrisa, all seven North Eastern States (Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh),Sikkim and the Union Territory of Chandigarh wishing to apply for the French visa will be required to submit their applications after taking a prior appointment at the France Visa Application Centre at No 15-26 Block E 2nd Floor, International Trade Tower, Nehru place, New Delhi - 110 019,, Monday to Friday except holidays and last working day of each fortnight.

SCHENGEN visa has to be obtained from the Consulate of the country where the MAIN PURPOSE OF TRAVEL lies. W.e.f. 12th December 2008, Switzerland has also joined the Schengen treaty making it a total of 25.

Note: In case of travel to multiple Schengen countries, please make your application to the Embassy where you will be staying for the maximum number of days.

Submission of Visa application and collection of passports can be done by the following:

1)Applicant himself.
2)Travel Agents authorised by Embassy of France,New Delhi.

Please note that for any submission or retrieval of passport/s to or from VFS ,an applicant/representative has to necessarily carry a copy of the identification (passport or a driving license or PAN card or voter-identity card ).The photocopy of the identification will have to be attached to the file at the time of its submission. In case a representative is coming to submit the application or collection of passport he needs to carry a photo id of himself and a proof establishing his relationship with the applicant and an authority letter from the applicant.

A representative cannot be a non listed Travel Agent.


In case the passport is submitted by a travel agency authorized by The Embassy of France, New Delhi in addition to the above-mentioned procedure, complete address of the travel agency, the name of the managing director, his phone, mobile numbers and e-mail address would also have to be provided.

Processing time will be minimum five working days (including day of submission at VFS). Applications accepted at France visa application center will be submitted on the next working day in the embassy.


Appointments can be taken online at www.vfs-france.co.in or by telephoning the France Visa Call Centre (phone number: 011-41131111). The Internet facility is available 24x7 while the phone-in facility is available 09:00am -12:00noon and 12:45pm - 5:30pm Monday-Friday. Visa processing time for Embassy of France, Delhi is minimum 5 working days.

All applications for DOM which include Guadeloupe(St Marteen), Martinique, Guyana and Reunion (processing time will be minimum 5 working days including the day of submission at VFS)and TOM which includes Wallis and Futana, Saint Pierre & Miquelon, French Polynesia, Nouvelle Caledonia and Mayotte ,(processing time will be minimum 5 working days including the day of submission at VFS) will submit their application with prior appointment at the France Visa Application Centre at No 15-26 Block E 2nd Floor, International Trade Tower, Nehru place, New Delhi - 110 019, Monday to Friday except holidays and last working day of each fortnight.

All applications for the African Countries which include Ivory Coast, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Djibouti,Mauritania, Togo, Gabon & Centrafrique (processing time will be minimum 10 working days) will submit their application directly at the French Embassy between 0930 Hrs to 1030 Hrs daily.

Diplomats, Official Passport holder, members of United Nation and other applicants can submit their application directly at the Embassy of France from Monday to Friday between 1000 Hrs to 1100 Hrs. Applicants for long stay visa will submit their applications only at the French Embassy In New Delhi from Monday to Friday between 0930 Hrs to 1030 Hrs .

Students to submit visa application directly at the Embassy of France from Monday to Friday between 1000 Hrs to 1100 Hrs after completion of appointment with French cultural centre, 2 Aurangzeb Road, New Delhi-110011, Tel-011-30410000.

W.E.F. 01/11/2006 all applicants except first time traveler (traveling first time to a Schengen country) while applying for a French visa will be required to fill Visa Insurance Undertaking form in addition to the visa application form.

Note: Applicants can now get their Visa Application Form filled in at the France Visa Application Centre. The charges are just Rs 100/- (inclusive of all taxes).
